Energy Balls Recipe

Chocolate Protein Energy Balls Recipe

If you’re looking for a delicious, healthy snack to fuel your day, these Chocolate Protein Energy Balls are perfect! Packed with natural sweetness, protein, and a rich cacao flavor, they’re great for pre-workout fuel, an afternoon pick-me-up, or a guilt-free dessert. Plus, they’re super easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups oats

  • 12 medjool dates (pitted)

  • 1 tablespoon protein powder (I use isolate soy, but feel free to use your favorite)

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder

  • 1 tablespoon almond butter (substitute with maple syrup if you’d like a nut-free option)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional: Chunks of 85% dark chocolate and desiccated coconut for coating.

Instructions

  1. Place all the ingredients into a food processor and blend until the mixture comes together into a big clump with a marzipan-like consistency. If it’s too dry, add a little more maple syrup to help it bind.

  2. Once the mixture has combined, add some chunks of 85% dark chocolate and pulse a few times. This will distribute the chocolate throughout the mixture while leaving small, delicious chunks intact.

  3. Roll the mixture into bite-sized balls and place them in an airtight container. If desired, roll each ball in desiccated coconut for an extra touch of texture and flavor.

  4. Store the energy balls in the fridge for up to two weeks. Enjoy them as a quick snack whenever you need a boost!

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Quick and Easy: These energy balls take just minutes to make, with no baking required.

  • Customizable: Swap out ingredients to suit your preferences or dietary needs. For example, use gluten-free oats or add a pinch of sea salt for extra flavor.

  • Nutritious: Packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats to keep you energized.

  • Kid-Friendly: A healthy treat kids can help make and enjoy!

I took over this ritual for our yoga teacher training classes from a dear friend after she graduated - and now I can't stop making them! For a kids' lunchbox-friendly version, replace the vanilla and nut butter with the juice and zest of one orange, adding a bit more maple syrup to bind if needed.

These Chocolate Protein Energy Balls are a staple in my kitchen, and I’m sure you’ll love them too. Let me know if you try the recipe or put your own spin on it! Happy snacking!
